In honour of Google Trends' 15th birthday, we analysed the most frequently asked... changed the way people were thinking about a topic. Questions like "how does Google Trends work?" and "how do I utilise Google Trends?" were also often looked up. In response, we've compiled 15 pointers for making the most of the tool and gaining valuable information.
1.When you enter a date in Google Trends, it will show you the most popular search terms that people were using at that time, from 2004 all the way up to the present. It is based upon not one but two data sets, one of which is historical (covering the period from 2004 up to the last three days) and the other is current (past week). Minute-by-minute precision is possible in real time.
2.Searches that are "trending" (or "increasing") have a higher rate of growth than other queries, whereas "top-searched" (or "most-searched") inquiries are the most popular ones for a certain time period. You can track changes over time by looking at search trends.
3. choose subjects wherever possible; Google Trends lets you begin with a "term" or "topic" search. When given the option, "subject" should always be selected. The topics system is language-agnostic, meaning that it can handle different spellings (and typos!) and different names for the same item.
